FAQ

A midwife is a healthcare provider who is trained to provide services including primary care, prenatal and obstetric care, routine  gynecological care like annual exams and contraception. Midwives are experts in uncomplicated Ob/Gyn care.

But many midwives do much more than provide care for pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

I am a CNM (LM). I have a college degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nurse-midwifery. I am trained to offer health services to women through all stages of life – from the teenage years through menopause.  Midwives like myself may work in all healthcare settings including hospitals, birth centers, offices, and clinics

More specific examples of services provided include but are not limited to:

general health check-ups

screenings

vaccinations

Screenings for cervical cancer

treatment for common infections

treatment for sexually transmitted infections

birth control

Prescriptions for most medications.

IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and it denotes the most notable and globally recognized credential in lactation expertise. I have been an IBCLC for the past 7 years, having spent thousands of hours assisting thousands of families (literally), to breastfeed their babies. I have experience helping families feed their babies ranging in age from a few hours to a few years old.

I offer a wide range of women's health, maternity and primary care services, including childbirth education, newborn care and infant CPR skills training, lactation services, postpartum care, gynecologic care and exams, evaluation and treatment of menstrual disorders, family planning and contraceptive options, preconception counseling, menopause symptomology treatment, and more.

As a Midwife, I have keen insight and a unique perspective that informs and adds value to the way that I provide care and guidance.

As a teacher/professor, I'm skilled at tailoring and disseminating information to a variety of audiences. I work hard to ensure that comprehension is achieved and autonomy is developed during the learning process and the mastery of skills.

Although I have attended births, I do not at this time. Instead, I have intentionally chosen to concentrate on the other and often forgotten about aspects of Midwifery care, bringing that same level of compassion, respect and partnership, to the moments before and beyond the birth.

Prenatal Care services up to 24 weeks, may be available upon request. Transfer of care required once this point is reached in the pregnancy. Contact me to discuss further and to inquire about availability.

I do not accept insurance but many insurance carriers have the option for patients to seek direct reimbursement for visits with out of network providers like myself. Supporting documentation to facilitate this may be available upon request.

I offer both in-person and virtual services, depending on the patient's needs and circumstances. I offer concierge services that provide individualized childbirth education or lactation services in the comfort of the patient's home, as well as virtual classes and consultations.

I do not offer "in-office visits" at this time. My practice offers concierge services, which means that for your convenience, in-person visits take place in the privacy and comfort of your home or a setting of your choosing. I currently service the greater New York City area including the 5 boroughs and Long Island. Providers all over the country are beginning to return to this model of care, utilizing home visiting or house calls to best meet patient and client needs. I'm happy to be able to offer this to my clients as their Midwife and to increase the overall access to the services I provide.

As a midwife the extent of what I can and will offer male partners includes "expedited treatment" wherein pharmacologic therapy is prescribed for the treatment of sexually transmitted infections as needed. These are the limits of the Midwifery scope of practice, for treating men in New York State.
